Determinateness/determination.
The fact that something is either this or that, that it is particular.
It is odd that he describes this as enigmatic here, in B&T, the as-structure is something obvious. Things as something, in a determined way. The fact that something appears as a specific something, not just as anything.
The heideggerian project can be boiled down into the multifacetted struggle to find determinateness rather than indeterminateness. It is a very basic attempt to stress determinateness.
The human being’s experience of the world is the letting be of determinateness. This is comportment. But all comportment is only available to a certain restraint.
Let in and let be are opposites.
On the Essence of Truth, a lecture by Heidegger, from 1930/32 around the same time as this one anyways. Here the turn in his thinking happens. Heidegger 2 kinda. Truth is the letting be of beings, letting beings be what they are in the determined way of themselves. Here that motif kind of reappears. A letting be or a not letting be of something.
Heidegger’s notion of truth is not the notion of correspondence – generally we say that something is truthful if it refers to reality – in Heidegger this is not really the case.
There is a book called Gelassenheit, tranquility.
There are determined and differentiated kinds of beings before which we take fundamentally different positions.
The things summon us and call upon us in specific ways. This is trying to do away with absolute subjectivity that is independent from the world and does with it what it pleases. The dasein is called upon by beings in a specific way.
The moment of failure, the failure of a being being what it is supposed to be, like a hammer failing to hammer, this calls your attention to it. The failure becomes the conspicuous of the self-evidence.
His critique of science is a binding normative way of erasing the determinateness of beings by subsuming particulars into universal classes. The question concerning the thing.

Marx operates on critiquing capitalism by pointing out the undeterminateness of liberal economic theory according to Diego.
Nature is not a being-present at hand. We are a peculiar transposedness into the contextual ring of living beings. By saying this, we are not saying that we are standing over against a wall of beings with the same shared content.
Being is the criterion for things to appear, wheras beings are those things that appear. The criterion is always presupposed in there being something determinate.
Adorno critiques Heidegger of what Heidegger critiques everyone else of. That is, the existence of a third world.
Heideggerian philosophy of finititude, in the sense of something being the thing that it is without being something else; having definite boundaries and limits. These are words that become important for Heidegger in his later thinking, the essence of entities are their boundaries.
